Want some more detail on what Worthwhile Grads get up to day to day? Here Zoe, Tasha, Leonie and Ruth give an overview of a day in the life of a Worthwhile (Grad) Schemer...
Zoe - Fundraising and Communications Grad with Student Hubs '12-13
As a Worthwhile grad, I lived in a shared house in Cambridge, with Alice and Jon – who were on the grad scheme with me – and Tess, our lovely housemate all the way from the US of A. I could walk to work form our house, so my day usually started with a peaceful stroll down the leafy avenues of Cambridge. Alice and I would indulge our caffeine habit with a strong coffee, and then the day could begin... |
Tasha - Local Hub Support (Southampton)
and Social Impact Careers Officer with Student Hubs '13-14 I’ve decided to do two days, because I have two types of days that look very different to each other because of the nature of my job. My role this year is kind of split; I am the Support Officer for Southampton Hub and I work on one of our National Programmes – the Social Impact Internship Scheme. So here are two real-life days, that I think encapsulate my work... |
Leonie - Local Hub Support (SOAS) with Student Hubs '13-14
Today I woke up, jumped on my bicycle and cycled to work. I’m based at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London and work in the enterprise department of the university to provide support to students wanting to set up their social enterprises. Before I go on, let me tell you a bit about SOAS, if you don’t know about it already. Today there is a staff protest going on outside my building... |
Laura - Local Hub Support (Imperial) with Student Hubs '13-14
Working in South Kensington is fantastic and this morning I took the time to appreciate the amazing surroundings with a pre work walk around sunny Hyde Park. After a team meeting to update each other on this week’s priorities, to set our value of the week: ‘Be Ambitious’ and to discuss how we can incorporate this into our daily work, I had a meeting with one of the students... |
Rachel - Local Hub Support (Imperial) with Student Hubs '13-14
I would struggle to paint a general picture of what life is like as a Hub Support Officer because every day is different. But here’s a description of a real day that I had in February to give you an idea... I got to work and spent the first hour on the phone to other Hub Support Officers discussing our respective plans for the upcoming Student Volunteering Week... |
Ruth W - Local Hub Support (Imperial) with Student Hubs '12-13
No two days are the same when you're working on such a small team (there were three of us, including me based in our office), but this might have been what a day would be like: I would get in to work about an hour before the Union opened to students, which gave me a quiet hour to come up with my to do list for the day and catch up on work.
Then the students start coming in…
Working as a local Hub Support Officer you’re completely there for the students; they come first. From supporting committee meetings and meeting up with students who’ve come to you with a new idea, to running about campus promoting the latest project or event, you’re always there as the reliable, friendly face for student social action...
