When can I apply to the Worthwhile Grad Scheme?
We're on pause and applications for Worthwhile are closed. To keep in touch, it's best to follow us on Twitter @WorthwhileUK.
How long until I hear back about my application?
We review applications on a monthly basis, so you can usually expect to hear from us within six weeks of applying. We may take a little longer during months when there are high volumes of applications.
When can I expect to be interviewed?
We prioritise interviews based on when you are available to start on the graduate scheme. If you are applying to start straight away, you can expect to be interviewed on our next available date.
What is application coaching and am I eligible?
Trained volunteers from our alumni community offer short coaching sessions via phone or Skype. Application coaches can help you write your strongest possible application and can support you with your interview if you’re successful.
Any prospective candidate for whom one or more of the following applies, can request application help by signing up using this short form:
What reasonable adjustments can you make at interview?
We are committed to ensuring that all applicants have the best chance to succeed in our application process. We can accommodate reasonable adjustments at both application and interview stage. For example:
Please get in touch to discuss any needs you might have. Anything you share will be kept in strict confidentiality and will not impact your application. Email info@worthwhile.org.uk with any questions or to arrange a phone call to discuss further.
What happens once I'm part of the talent pool?
You will gain access to all our roles as they come through and we’ll support you to apply for the ones that suit your interests. Once you have registered interest in a placement, the host organisation will make a decision whether or not they want to take your application further. If they do, you will be invited to meet them for further assessment. If not, no worries! We’ll keep on sending you the list of placements and supporting you as best we can to find the perfect match.
If you are successful in being selected by the host organisation, you will be offered a place on the Worthwhile programme.
How long will my role last?
We recruit for both fixed term placements (usually between 9-12 months) and permanent roles. Start dates are rolling throughout the year.
Will I be paid?
You will be paid living wage, London living wage if your placement is based in London (the Living Wage Foundation rate, or ‘real living wage’, not the minimum wage). Some of our organisations also pay more than that too. The top end of salaries that we recruit for is around £25,000.
Where will my role be located?
All roles are based in the UK and could come up anywhere. However, we see most roles in London, Bristol, Oxford and Cambridge. You decide where you’ll work.
What organisation could I work for?
As a growing organisation, we are constantly expanding the number of innovative and exciting social impact organisations we work with. In the past year, we’ve had graduates placed with the likes of Student Hubs, Renaisi, Student Minds, Care Workers’ Charity, Social Spider, Local Trust, Centre for Youth Impact, Generation Change and Big Lottery Fund.
What kind of role will I have?
We do our best to match you with a role that you will find both challenging and rewarding. Available roles are dependent on the host organisations with whom we work each year and we offer a wide variety of roles. We often recruit for roles in the following functional areas, so you will be asked what kind of functions you're interested in in the written application: Research & Analysis, Communications, Digital/Tech, Business Development/Sales, Design, Project Management, Fundraising, Frontline/Service Delivery.
Do I need to have achieved a specific degree to be eligible to apply?
We recognise that academic success is only one indicator of ability to do amazing work. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds - you don’t need to have a degree at all.
Where have previous graduates gone on to work?
Previous Worthwhile grads have gone on to be promoted within their organisations, or to work for other charities, social enterprises and for-profit companies such as Oxfam, The Girls’ Network, Restless Development, Nesta, Innocent Drinks and the Civil Service. Some of our alumni have even set up their own organisations: check out Clotho, Monthlies and UniHack.
Is there an age limit for Worthwhile?
There's no age limit. We think that the training and support we provide best suits people who have just left education or who have 1-2 years’ professional work experience. However, we are happy to consider all applications.
Do you sponsor visas?
Unfortunately, we are not in a position to sponsor visas, nor will many of our partner organisations be in a position to do so. To apply you need to be eligible to work in the UK.
